Atlantic Thrills Unveil Debut Album at Dusk

Wednesday, February 05, 2014

When in Providence, odds are you will get the chance to check out an all-local killer rock & roll show that's sure to be a blast. At Dusk this past Saturday, garage rock phenoms Atlantic Thrills celebrated the release of their self-titled debut that was the must see show in The Creative Capital. You know when Ravi Shavi, Gymshorts and Littlefoot are rounding out the bill it's going to be nothing short of a rocking time. There was a wasted Animal from The Muppets riding a unicorn and a reindeer smoking a cigarette. The epicenter of all the mayhem was Dusk on this evening--if you weren't here then you weren't anywhere.

Littlefoot Opens

Studs Jerkel started spinning his 45's on the 1's & 2's and then Littlefoot started it off with their brand of dream surf pop. Erica Sutherland's angelic voice really makes this act jump out at you. Their danceable rhythms can also make you cut a rug. Littlefoot was all that and more during their performance, with lovely tunes that are sure to put you in a swooning state. They have a self-titled debut album of their own coming out this year--definitely keep your eye on Littlefoot because they'll be doing big things in 2014. Check out their stuff here.

All Hail Gymshorts

When you talk about bands that are causing a buzz in Providence, you have to start with Gymshorts. Punk rock that always brings different dimensions to the forefront, they've been ripping up the music scene and they proved why while on stage. "Owed To The Bank" started a mosh pit amongst the attendees while "Hey Mom Hey Dad" engulfed a headbanging fest for the ages. You gotta love Gymshorts. Download music from their BandCamp page for free or get old school by getting a few cassettes they have available. I suggest bringing the analog gear out and dive in to something badass.

Ravi Shavi

Wanna start a revolution? Then you should have Ravi Shavi play it. They were up next and what more could you expect? They've built up a reputation as one of the top acts in Providence and it's because Rafay's band is blissfully original and it's rock & roll. New material in "Independent" and "The Great Escape" highlighted another spectacular set. It seems as if Ravi Shavi writes new songs every day, I can't wait until their next album is released and I'm sure you feel the same way. Check them out here.

The Feature Attraction

Concluding a night of magnificence were no other than Atlantic Thrills. Guitarist Daniel Tanner was wearing a wigged out sombrero and the rest of the band had people going nuts. "Light Shines", "Give It Back", "Lie To Me", "Drugs In It" and "Day At The Beach" upped the ante so hard that Animal was crowd surfing and the unicorn became extinct. Someone stole the reindeer's cigarette, so he flew back home to complain to Rudolph about it. After "Boozin' All Night", Animal was making out with a barstool and the rest of us kept on partying. It was all sorts of insane and after Atlantic Thrills' frenzied performance The Avery's J.R. got up on the DJ booth to spin hip-hop as the night came to an end. By now you should have figured out two things, you have to get Atlantic Thrills' brand new debut album and you should absolutely stop by Dusk sometime and see a show. Both are a lot of fun, so you pretty much have no choice.
